We went to a deaf school by using the metro and bus to get there. We walked by foot during the last leg of the trip to the school. At first, we were shy. Fortunately, our Sponsor and Director of Instruction Scott Mohan is skilled with using international signs and it warmed us up. We all finally began to talk with other students. We tried our best to communicate with each other and learned how to use international signs and gestures to communicate with each other. It was a fun and good experience. The school had a skit relating to Greek Independence Day. We watched them sign in Greek Sign Language. In addition, they used traditional clothes to display their traditions and cultures. They explained that Greece reclaimed its independence in 1821 from the Ottoman Empire that had taken over Greece for nearly four hundred years! Greece is celebrating 202 year of independence. We enjoyed our visit with the students at the school for the Deaf and look forward to returning on Monday morning if everything works out.
We got lunch after that. Then, we went to the Heraklion Museum of Ancient Greece Technology. It showed incredible inventions, such as fire-operated gates. The siege machines were huge! Some of us fell asleep during the movie explaining exhibitions because we were a tired. We finally went to the illusion museum afterward. This was mind-boggling! One of us threw up after walking through a bridge in a spiral tunnel. After being challenged by being tired, following schedules and using international signs, some of us became a little moody and complained. However, we keep on staying strong as a group.
