March 23: Lima

By Lindsay:

Hello from Lima Peru! Today, we were supposed to go to  the old Centre area and visit the Inquisition museum.  Unfortunately the area was closed today because of a situation related to the president. Yesterday the president of Peru announced that he won’t be president anymore and people were showing up in the palace area and the police had to close off the museum area. Wee changed our plans and went to the Miraflores area and we had chance to walk around the beach, the town itself, then eat lunch. After lunch we had a bus tour called the Mirabus.  The bus had 2 floors and the top was open. We enjoyed riding in the open air under the sun for an hour. On that tour we saw old buildings, statues, and enjoyed the views of ocean and cliffs. After that tour, walked to The Love Park, and saw beautiful art work and a statue of two people in love. After that we took taxi and went to Barracano. We enjoyed a good 30 minutes at the BEACH!! We enjoyed the sunset and the water. Daniel found a crab at on beach then we walked around the area and did some shopping. We had our dinner and ice cream. Before we knew it, it was time for bed, tomorrow is gonna be a long day! We will be flying to Cusco and visiting historical places.

Extra comments from Scott:

We stayed at a hotel near the airport and it is a family run hotel. The daughter of the owner is learning sign language and was thrilled to have our group visit so she can work on her signing skills. Tonight she invited a local interpreter to meet us and we enjoyed chatting with them.

We will be flying from sea level (basically 0 feet elevation) from where Lima is and up to Cuzco which is 11,152 feet high! That is almost as tall as the Santa Fe Ski Basin!
