We got up late (8 am is late to us now!) as we got into our hotel room around 2 am. due to plane delays. We had some breakfast. It was delicious! But we waited for the taxi almost an hour! We went to the Plaza de Armas and met people from the Peru School for the Deaf; a principal and two students. They led us around the Plaza de Armas and we visited the San Pedro church. We also visited Santa Domingo church and palace. The place was beautiful. We really enjoyed the courtyards and the rooms in the palace that was part of the church. There were a lot of colorful tiles that came from Spain. Many rooms had a lot of wood carving panels and sculptures.
We stopped by at a restaurant to eat lunch with the principal and two students. We got to know the students, introduced ourselves and learned some Peruvian sign language. After awhile, we went to another church that had catacombs. The San Fransisco cathedral is well known in Lima for its yellow paint and Spanish church architecture. We had a tour of the cathedral and part of the tour was visiting the catacombs under the church. It was not as big as the ones in Paris. At the end, we said our farewell to the principal and the students. As we parted ways, we got into the taxis, we arrived safely to the university area but we then got lost. We waited for our staff to come about a hour later. Brianne came running to give us a hug when she found us. After getting lost, we met up with Scott gave us another hug and went to the sky kitchen cooking class. We made three different dishes, the appetizer: Causa which is potatoes-avocado-chicken mixed with mayo done in layers; the main dish: Lomo Saltado which was beef with onions and tomato; and dessert: Picarones. The dessert was fried sweet potato and squash donut with molasses. Most of us liked this dessert. It looked so good and the taste was so amazing. Today is the last night in the hotel at Lima, Peru. We will be flying out tomorrow night, leaving past midnight so we will sleep on the plane. Tonight our last night in real bed in Lima until we get home and sleep in our own beds!
